2014 Motor Boat Award for the new 43 heralds Princess’ continued domination of the flybridge market

Princess continues to dominate the flybridge market with the new Princess 43 picking up an award in the Flybridge up to 55ft category, arguably the most important boat category of the night and fighting off competition from far larger challengers.

Launched in September 2013 the Princess 43 had the challenge of replacing the iconic Princess 42, one of the most celebrated yachts ever produced and one that set the benchmark for all flybridge boats under 50ft for over a decade. Benefiting from Princess’ pioneering build technologies seen on the M CLASS superyacht range and a wonderfully contemporary interior design, the new 43 has quickly established herself at the new icon of her class.

In a recent review of the 43 Motor Boats Monthly magazine said: “Princess spent a lot of time and a great deal of effort making sure it got this boat, a mainstay of the range, carrying serious heritage, absolutely spot on. It succeeded. And then some”. You can read the full test report here.

The Princess Yachts 43 is on display at the London Boat Show (4th – 12th January) as part of a ten boat line-up that includes the new V48 Open which makes her UK debut at the show. The 43 will also be on display at boot Dusseldorf, 18th – 26th January.

Mercury Marine celebrates 75th anniversary

United States – Mercury Marine will celebrate its 75th anniversary Wednesday, Jan. 22, from its humble beginnings in Wisconsin to its growth into the world’s leading provider of marine engines.

Mercury, a division of Brunswick Corporation, designs, manufactures and sells the broadest range of marine propulsion products for applications ranging from inflatable tenders and fishing boats to cruisers and yachts.

Mercury will celebrate its 75th anniversary throughout 2014 in ways that will reflect our strong heritage of innovation and leadership in the marine industry,” said Mark Schwabero, president of Mercury Marine. “We will conduct events in locations around the world that will engage our customers, suppliers, employees and communities and will recognize the roles those people and entities have played in establishing the foundation of our business and our future.

"We're excited about sharing this celebration with those who have helped us grow and succeed."

Mercury was founded by E. Carl Kiekhaefer in 1939 when he purchased a bankrupt engine manufacturing plant in Cedarburg, Wis., not far from the Kiekhaefer family farm. The plant assets included 300 outboard engines that had been rejected by a large mail-order retailer due to defects and operating problems. Hoping to transform the engines into working capital to fund the future business he envisioned – magnetic separators for the dairy-farm industry – Mr. Kiekhaefer redesigned, rebuilt and sold the engines to the retailer that had initially rejected them. The engines sold immediately and Kiekhaefer suddenly found himself in the marine engine business.

Mercury made its initial mark in the marine industry by providing reliable, innovative products. But it didn’t take long before its engines were highly regarded for performance and speed. Mercury has long been recognized for producing engines that not only get you where you want to go, but also get you there first.
Mercury directs the activities of more 5,400 employees in dozens of countries from its global headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis., and works hand in hand with more than 4,200 dealers and distributors around the world.
Mercury’s year-long 2014 celebration plans include events in various locations throughout the world.

Princess celebrated completion of milestone 100th princess V39 and V59

Today Princess Yachts International celebrated another landmark achievement - the handover of the 100th Princess V39.

The Princess V39, the shipyard’s entry-level model, made its debut in January 2012 and almost immediately picked up two major industry awards, in Europe and the US.

Fitted with twin 330hp Volvo D6 diesels and Duoprop sterndrives, the V39 offers 38-knot performance and a luxurious two cabin, four to six berth layout at an unbeatable price.

The boat has proved particularly popular with buyers in the UK and Scandinavia, with significant numbers also exported to the US, Japan and Argentina.

Earlier this year the team responsible for V Class delivered a landmark 100th Princess V52, another award-winning yacht which was unveiled during the autumn 2011 show season.

Available with two or three cabins and a choice of Volvo Penta or Caterpillar diesels, the 36-knot V52’s interior size and opulence belies her agile handling. Add to this mix an unbeatably versatile main-deck layout, with triple sliding glass doors opening up the saloon and cockpit, and a large sunroof in the hardtop, and it’s easy to see why this is the best selling 50ft sport yacht in the world
